Biosecurity New Zealand

Working to protect New Zealand's boating, fishing and diving paradise from biosecurity threats.

Aotearoa New Zealand relies on effective biosecurity to support trade and economic prosperity, protect our unique biodiversity and safeguard our way of life.

Or, to put it another way, biosecurity protects our paradise.

Marine biosecurity is happening all the time, all around us – from Border staff inspecting a visiting yacht to researchers investigating exotic caulerpa fragmentation and a recreational fisher taking seaweed off the anchor chain as it comes up.

Biosecurity New Zealand has an active marine biosecurity programme that includes working to prevent new threats from entering the country, systems to detect them early, and working with others to respond when they are found.
