What do you have for a spare parts kit?

We have all been on that dive where we needed something fixed

My spare parts kit consists of many items I have added to it over the many years (36) of diving experience. And as always it comes from finding I need something that might not be in m y kit at the time, so I add it in after that.

Even when not instructing it is still a good practice to keep a spares kit on hand, just in case.Like most people I have had times where an O-ring has blown, or a BCD inflator has started leaking, usually this is from the O-ring being damaged. Fortunately I have always had a Spare Parts Kit on hand and can remedy the issue quickly.

Spare part kits are essential to be able to fix an issue fast, and carry on with your diving day

I have recently had a clean-up of my spare parts kit, I decided to label and bag all the items I have inside the kit.Below is a list of what I have in my Spares kit.

  • 2 x Fin strap clips (male and female)

This might sound like a lot, but I would rather have it than not, and many times I have had to do on the spot repairs to equipment for students or other divers, and I know it has always been handy to be able to help them out.
I have searched online and have found a few Diver tool kits and spare parts kits, these range from $59 - $199 depending on what they have in them, unfortunately they never have everything I need, so I preferred to build my own.

There are also courses which you can take online for doing maintenance of different equipment, I have worked in dive shops in the past and undertaken regulator and BCD service courses as well as Ocean technology system (OTS) Full face Mask maintenance technician course. these courses can also help you to know what's happening with your equipment and how to fix it.

Do you have a spare parts kit?

If so what do you have in yours? What do you think is the most import piece of equipment that all divers should have in their spare parts kit?

Have you ever needed a spare parts kit while out diving? If you did and didn't have one, maybe its time to look into getting for yourself! As a diving instructor having students under my care, I have found it important to have a spare parts kit.
