Book Giveaway: The Escape Artist
This true story of Inky the Octopus is a great kids' gift

When Inky the Octopus slipped out of his tank at the National Aquarium in New Zealand, his audacious escape made headlines across the world.
A rock. A pot. Some sand. A light. And the same four walls, day in and day out at the National Aquarium in New Zealand. That's all Inky had ever known in his tank. Understimulated and needing some answers, he sees people walking by and wonders where they all go. Then one fateful day, the lock on his tank is left unlatched. Inky escapes and he miraculously makes his way into a drainpipe and out into the ocean.
Inky's story is all true. The common New Zealand octopus was found in a crayfish pot near Pania Reef, north of Napier Port, with scars and injuries on his limbs. A naming competition by the Napier City Council was held, and rather aptly, the name Inky was the winner.
Inky lived at the National Aquarium of New Zealand in Napier from 2014 until his daring escape in 2016. He had games and toys to play with, but he obviously wanted more. Award-winning author and biologist Thor Hanson's engaging rhyming text is funny and engaging, and also provides plenty of information about these fascinating creatures. Extensive back matter includes information about octopuses, aquariums and the real Inky's actual escape story.
This is a gorgeous book that will make a perfect Christmas or birthday present for kids, grandkids or any junior marine enthusiasts.
