It is a quality that is essential for Police Officers who face a range of demanding, high-pressure situations every day.

Someone thinking of embarking on a career in Police might consider whether they have the skills and attitude to help contribute to safer communities in New Zealand. The parallel between the diving environment and high-pressure situations sometimes faced by Police is striking. This understanding opens the door to a rewarding future where diving skills can intersect with the responsibilities of a police officer.
There is an initial two years as a frontline officer where staying calm under various pressures would be a precious attribute to have dealt with all sorts of emergencies and non-emergencies.

Another synergy with diving is the importance of teamwork and watching out for those around you, as you do with your diving buddy. This is essential as a Police officer, where working in a team and looking out for colleagues is critical for safety and support.

Being physically fit is very advantageous going into the Police. Part of the recruitment process is undertaking the Police physical appraisal test (PAT), and being fit going into that makes it a lot easier to pass. Police need to be physically fit as part of their job on an ongoing basis, and they are also encouraged to stay fit for mental well-being.

Police are looking for people to join them in all parts of the country, from the bigger cities to the smallest towns – over 300 locations. Potentially, you could work and then fulfil your passion for diving close by in your downtime.

If you're ready to dive into a rewarding career that could use the skills and attributes you've gained from diving to help keep New Zealand communities safe, then think about joining the Police today. Go to newcops.govt.nz for more information.
